>>> cannot find the modem. If I enable bluetooth, it connects fine.
>>> I've had it working before on Win2003 Server, and it just stopped. I
>>> tried on a fesh system and it has problems. I've tried MPT versons
>>> 4.36, 4.51, 4.56 and 5.05/5.07. Anyone have any clue as to what is
>>> happening?
>> I had a similar problem w/a win2k pro install. Without going into
>> what I *think* happened, this is what I did to get it working:
>>
>> 1) go to <http://forums.avanquestusa.com/> & search for similar
>> prob's. 2) register & post the prob w/a reference to similar post.
>>
>> W/in a day or so, Avanquest sent me instructions, a driver uninstaller
>> and a couple of updated files for the MPT, one of which was a driver.
>> I've been able to use usb or bt w/out a problem for the past 1+ years.
>>
>> hth,
>> -Craig
>>
>
> I haven't tried posting on Avanquest yet since I find the talent here at
> times better. But I'm out of options and I may have to visit.

Yea;

I know the feeling. The best description I've heard for MPT is "flaky."
It mostly works. And the support posts I've read, more often than
not, can be somewhat... cryptic.

That's why I started out by writing: "without going into what I think
happened..."

g'luck and let us know!
>> It doesn't always work. I start the driver installer and tell it
OK, I really don't know more than the above.
>
> Thanks Bruce, much appreciated. All is very simple when you know how.
> Kinda makes me ask why these simple instructions are not to be found
> in the user manual.

The carriers dictate what goes in the manual. Sometimes better manuals
can be found online. If you go to
http://www.motorola.com.hk/eng/motomobile/v/razrcolor/ and click User
Manual you will get the full generic v3 manual as Motorola wrote it.
Note that you will be on the Hong Kong site but the manual is in
English.
The red spot will remain red and any remaining warranty will likely not
be honored. However it is not a sensor that shuts off the phone and is
unrelated to why your phone is working again. It is simply a moisture
indicator. There are others inside the phone too.

You should have no trouble reading m3u files on the Z9.

Phone created playlists are some proprietary nonsense or other, I'm sure.
I never use them.
>>>>>> Is there a "one-button" no-ring solution for the V3 RAZR? By
>>>>>> that I mean one button you can click on that will permit the
>>>>>> phone to ring only for entries in the phone book?
>>>>>
>>>>> Settings/Security/Restrict Calls/Incoming Calls/Allow Contacts
>>>
>>> I only have the "Allow All" option. Do I need to flash my V3 to
>>> get the "Allow Contacts" option?
>>
>> No, that's what you should see. Select "Change" and you'll be
>> given a list of "All", "None" or "Contacts".
>
> That worked. Thanks for the correction.

I'm glad it worked, you can test by calling your cell from a phone
that's not in your contacts, you should hear a ring back maybe 4 times
and then it should go to voice mail. Then call again from a phone that
IS in your contacts, it should ring and you can talk to yourself but
people will wonder about you. <G>

It pays to poke around, one thing I've found about almost every phone
on almost every carrier, the manual provided is almost worthless.

>> I've had mine for about 6 months now. Love it. I had a RAZR V3i that I
>> thought was pretty good, but this phone is better.
>In what way(s)...?

The noise cancellation alone would have been worth it. 3G (better
reception, as well as faster performance), better battery life,
substantially better camera, other goodies.

The form-factor isn't bad either.
