My son lives most of the year in Germany and has an unlocked original iphone purchased there (Apple wasn't allowed to sell locked phones in Germany :-). He has a UK SIM, Czech SIM, and Asian SIM for when he travels to those areas. No problems. When coming to the US he had been using the SIM from his old ipaq which is on my family plan and had been working fine. Last time he was here data wouldn't work (voice & SMS worked fine). ATT said that he now had to have a specific iphone data plan instead of the generic PDA data plan but that they couldn't add it to the account unless he purchased an iphone.

Is ATT blocking iphones unless purchased from them? Is his only option for the US to get a SIM from another carrier? Or is ATT blowing something and he just needs to make config changes?

Any thoughts from anyone on this would be very helpful!

The FCC has approved the Dell Mini 3iX and it looks like the US will see this early next year via AT&T. The Dell Mini 3iX has 850/1900 GSM and UMTS bands as well as Wi-Fi, 3.5 inch touchscreen with 640 x 360 pixels, A-GPS, Microsoft Exchange support and a 3 megapixel camera.

The only thing we are waiting for is for AT&T to announce it.

Hi. I'm from Malaysia and would like to know how stuffs works over in the USA. I'll be going over there for study for about 2 years and am planning to get a cell phone from AT&T.

So far, what I know is that AT&T has the "Cell Phone Plans" and "Prepaid GoPhone". I'm planning to opt for the "Prepaid GoPhone" as I don't really call or text very much. From what I see in AT&T website, I'll need to sign up for one of their plans and I'll be able to buy cell phones from AT&T. The phones that comes with the plan are either free or at a cheaper rate if compared to the actual price of the cell phone. For "Prepaid GoPhones", there is not contract(am I right?)

1. Is the phone mine after I purchase it or do I need to return the phone to AT&T if I were to stop using their service?

2. I've read somewhere on the net that some phones are locked by the telco companies. So will I be having problems if I decided to used the phone in my country, Malaysia?

If anyone has anything to add, feel free to drop your thoughts. It'll help me understand better how cell phone plans works in USA.

Anyone plan on trying to get a Milestone working on AT&T when it comes out?

If my AT&T phone on a contract breaks can I just buy a cheap AT&T prepaid go phone and put my sim card into it and use it or does it need to be unlocked or something?

i have the pantech matrix and my screen broke and i am getting a new one tomorow. i received some text messages today and i want to save them to my sim card so i can read them on my new phone. can anyone with the matrix tell me what number i have to press in the text to save it to the sim after pressing the left(options) button? thanks

I tell ya that att has got to have the worst customer service , my girlfreind of 3 years has had them for 6 years and they never have given any one more of a problem then this company right here. She is coming to the dark side of un said company because of their behavior .. Too bad for them, any one else expeirence this ????

My phone stays connected to 3G at my house even though I only get one bar, as soon I get a call it gets dropped because the phone tries to switch to Edge. So I have to turn off 3G on my whenever I'm home if I want to recieve call, a real PITA.

Anyone else have issue with ATT & 3G?

I am trying to decide between the Storm 2 and the iPhone and to me one of the most deciding factors is going to the the provider. I have a couple questions.

1. Is the 3G map that Verizon constantly puts on their commercials true?

2. The guy at Verizon told me that you mostly run on 2G speeds with ATT because their coverage is so crappy. I take that with a grain of salt since it was a guy from Verizon telling me that.

3. If I hit the ENTER button on the iPhone and the Storm 2 at the exact same time to go to a specific website, which one would get there first?

4. I guess a better question for #4 is what service provider is actually faster?

5. What do you think? Who is the better service provider?

After 1.5 years, I've pretty much had it with AT&T and the iPhone. In the last 3-4 months, AT&T service has degraded considerably in the NYC metro area - I can barely make a call without having 1-2 immediate drops or call failures.

Anyways, I want to switch to Verizon (especially now that their Droid is coming out). Anyone know of any current means to get out of my contract?

I get at least 3-4 calls a week from people saying I called their cell and did not leave a message. They are returning my call based on their phones call log. I am not butt dialing or in any way making these calls. These callers are not known to me in any way and are not in my contacts list. They are from all over the country. My phone sits on my desk all day and never moves.
Does anyone know what is happening?
I have a Samsung Blackjack with AT&T service and this has been going on for months.

Can anyone provide insight on how to get data transfer billing details from AT&T wireless I have data transfer useage on my monthly bill, but need specific details, time, sites, etc.. I have called AT&T aand they claim those details do not exist

So I have a nice little cheap phone until I get a nice one, and I've got my options open, seeing as I have an upgrade feature.
The problem is, I don't know what kind of phone to get?
What I want is, wi-fi capable, something that allows me to customize ringtones to my contacts, and a way to hook it up to the computer. (Via USB or something like that)
I don't care if it's touch screen or not. I don't care about camera quality or texting quality since I don't really do either with my phone. All I need is something basic that still has some fun options. (If I'm going to have it for a while...)
I do not want an Iphone. Because I do not like them. But I am open to anything other than that.
